Tompkins, Daniel D.
(21 jun. 1774, Scarsdale, N.Y., EE.UU.–11 jun. 1825, Staten Island, N.Y.).

Político estadounidense. Perteneció a la corte suprema de su estado (1804–07). Como gobernador (1807–17), inició reformas en la educación y en el código penal, y colaboró para obtener una ley estadual que prohibió la esclavitud. Opuesto a los intereses bancarios, para detener la autorización de un banco clausuró el período de sesiones del poder legislativo, única vez que eso ha sucedido en la historia de Nueva York. Fue elegido vicepresidente dos veces, junto con el pdte. James Monroe (1817–25).
